Why the name

Most remodels do not go wrong. They go quiet.

The complaint we hear about other contractors is almost never about the tile. It is not knowing the price, not knowing the date, and not being able to reach anyone. So we built the company around fixing that.

01

A fixed price, in writing

The number on your contract is the number you pay. If something has to change, you see it and sign it before we build it.

02

A schedule with real dates

You get a week by week plan on day one. When something moves, you hear it from us that day, not at the end.

03

One person who answers

You get your project manager's direct number. The same person from the first walkthrough to the final punch list.

04

A clean house every evening

Dust walls, floor protection, and a swept site before we leave. You live here. We build like it.

Recent work

Recent remodeling projects across the Bay Area.

Every photograph on this site is a project we built. No stock imagery, no renderings passed off as finished rooms.

Since 1989

Thirty five years and counting of Bay Area homes.

We know what is behind the walls here, because we have opened them.

Post war ranch homes with undersized panels. Eichlers with radiant slabs you cannot cut into casually. Nineties tracts with the same three floor plans and the same three problems. Craftsman bungalows and Victorians worth restoring properly.

That history is the reason our estimates hold. We have priced these houses before, so we are not guessing at what we will find when the drywall comes off.

  • Building since 1989. CSLB #1124235, bonded and insured, in good standing.
  • Design and build under one roof. Drawings, permits, trades and finish from one team.
  • All work done in house. From framing to the final finish, the work is done by our own people, not subcontracted out.
More about us

How it works

Five steps, and you always know which one you are on.

Step 01

The walkthrough

We come to you, look at the space, and talk about what you actually want. It is free, it takes about an hour, and there is no sales pitch at the end of it.

Step 02

The contract and your price

An itemized breakdown of what every part of your project costs, a schedule for how long the work will take, and a clear payment structure, all in writing before anything begins. Read it closely and ask us anything. A contract you fully understand on day one is why the project ends with no surprises on the final bill.

Step 03

Design and drawings

Measured plans, elevations and a professional 3D rendering of your space, so you can review the finished design before a single wall is touched. You approve it, and only then does the build begin.

Step 04

Permits and build

We pull the permits, meet the inspectors and build it. You get a weekly update and a site we sweep every evening.

Step 05

Walkthrough and warranty

We walk the finished job with you, clear the punch list, and hand over the warranty. And if you ever need us afterward, we will be right here, as we have been since 1989.

Where we work

A Bay Area general contractor, across five counties.

Clarity Construction builds throughout the San Francisco Bay Area: the Peninsula, the South Bay and the East Bay. That is San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda and Contra Costa counties, and our crews are on a site in most of them in any given week.

The design showroom is on Scott Boulevard in Santa Clara, near the center of it all: close enough that the same crew stays with your job from demolition through the final walkthrough.

Common questions

The things people ask before they call.

Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Yes. Clarity Construction holds California contractors license number 1124235, and we carry both general liability insurance and workers compensation. You can verify the license yourself on the CSLB website, and we recommend you check it for any contractor you are considering.

What areas do you serve?

The San Francisco Bay Area: the Peninsula, the South Bay and the East Bay. In practice that means San Francisco, Daly City, San Mateo, Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jose, Campbell, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Morgan Hill, Fremont, Union City, Hayward, Oakland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Dublin and Pleasanton. If your town is not on that list, call and ask.

Is the first consultation really free?

Yes, and there is no obligation attached to it. We come to your home, look at the space, talk through what you want, and give you an honest range before anyone signs anything. Detailed design work and drawings are a paid stage that begins only after you decide to move forward.

How do you price a project?

Fixed price, once the scope is settled. We measure, we specify, and we write an itemized contract where every line has a number. Where something genuinely cannot be known before demolition, like the routing of plumbing we cannot yet see, we flag it as a potential change order with an estimated range before you ever sign, so nothing about your project arrives as a surprise.

What happens if you find a problem behind the wall?

On homes of a certain age it happens, and we would rather find it than cover it. We show you what we found, explain what it costs to fix properly, and you approve a written change order before we do the work. Nothing appears on your invoice that you have not signed for.

Can I live in my house during the work?

For a kitchen, a bathroom or an addition, almost everyone does. We build dust walls, protect the floors along our route, and clean the site every evening. For a full gut renovation most families move out, and we will tell you honestly which one your project is at the walkthrough.

How long does a remodel take?

Honestly, it depends, and we would rather tell you the truth than print an average that turns out to be wrong for your house. Permitting is usually the longest and least predictable part, and it differs city to city. The part we control is the build, and that moves fast because our own crews do it start to finish instead of waiting on subcontractors to have a gap. Call us at (408) 443-2393, tell us what you are planning, and we will give you a real schedule for your project.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Our workmanship is warranted, and every manufacturer warranty on the materials and appliances we install is passed to you at handover. If something needs attention after we finish, you call the same number you always have.
